Our Story
Mission
The Golden Gem Mercantile is a small, family owned and ran business in Rockford, WA. Our mission is to provide our customers with a variety & unique selection of products, as well as an amazing experience! With three departments, including a Coffee House, Local Artisans, and Feed & Animal Supplies, we have something for everyone. Our storefront sits right on a farm where chickens run through the parking lot and cows can be seen moseying through the fields. How we began
Jeff & Amanda, the owners of the Golden Gem Mercantile, met in 2005. After getting married in 2008, they had their son, Joe. Jeff had a love for farming and in 2014 they bought their own farm, LaShaw Farms. With a passion for agriculture, Jeff began farming various crops & rearing cattle & chickens. He then expanded into making his own animal feed which is where the idea of owning a feed store began.
An idea
With a love for coffee, Amanda & Jeff's idea of a feed store began to expand into something more. Both having a huge fondness of their community, they knew their idea could also help support other small businesses around them. Together, the two of them built The Golden Gem Mercantile. In 2015 they opened their doors to the community as the one stop shop for feed & animal supplies, a coffee house and local artisans.
The Golden Gem
Now seven years later, the business has changed and grown immensely. In 2016 a new member of the family joined the LaShaw family, their third son Jon Jon. In January of 2021 the LaShaws purchased a coffee roasting business. A little more then a year later they moved the business, roaster and all, into The Golden Gem. With all their businesses being in one location, Jeff & Amanda are now able to spend more time with their family & friends while still being a huge part of the businesses.
